Of the recent “Fleetwood Mac Tribute” album, Antony Hegarty’s take on “Landslide” was the track that I was most excited about. And now that I’ve heard it, it was everything I was hoping it to be. A faithful take, Antony’s fragile voice always has that way of keeping me on the edge of my seat, lest I scare the beauty away. Just wonderful.
If you missed MUTEMATH on today’s “Like A Version” on Triple J, then you missed out on 4 minutes worth of pure, pure music. I know that sounds an obvious statement, but I well and truly mean it. It’s not often these days that you hear pure, unbridled music. And holy shit, I loved it.
If watching the Grammys the other night made you nostalgic for the Beach Boys halcyon days, you’re not the only one. Yesterday, Pete Yorn share the below on his soundcloud account, saying:
“Watching last nights Grammy’s made me wanna share this with you….I recorded this (one of my all time favorite songs) a few months ago as part of a record of cover songs I’m putting together….perhaps you have seen me sing this song during past live shows…..this is SURFER GIRL….”
Turns out ol’ Pete has done a bloody fine job with this tune (one of my favourites). All crackly and warm, Brian and the boys would be proud. I’m pulling out my Beach Boys records right now, and looking forward to Pete’s covers album too.
Seriously, I love this cover. Although it’s been 5 years since Damien Rice last released an LP, this just reminded me why he’s still one of my favourite artists.
A little note from Chris about Christmas Lights...
In my mind, it’s now official: Coldplay have already won the 2010 Christmas Single battle, with – really – just their opening shot across the bow.
Thanks everyone else, but you might as well pack up your things and go home now; because this IS Christmas for 2010.
Coldplay – Christmas Lights
When that first chorus kicks in, I simply can’t help but smile; Chris Martin was born to pen Christmas tunes.
You can download “Christmas Lights” by Coldplay on iTunes now… just click here.
A few years ago (back in 2007 in fact) I posted Coldplay’s Christmas cover of The Pretenders’ “2000 miles”… which was probably one of the most downloaded files on this site of that year. So, as it’s Christmas and all, here’s my (re)gift to you… 2000 miles. Put it on your Christmas playlist, along with Christmas lights.
