thanks

A new domain, and some thanks.

So, as you can see, the blog has finally been changed over to it’s own domain. Normal posting will resume from next week, but for now I wanted to drop a quick “thank you” line to two people who were extremely helpful in the process:
Meg at Blogpond for her willingness to respond to a completely out-of-the-blue email with great advice, and Snoskred for her tireless patience with all my noob questions when setting up the hosting.
Thanks again guys, I really appreciate all the help.

As you were.

Brett Dennen – Ain’t No Reason

Brett Dennen

So 2007 is nearly over, and there’s one artist who I feel should have made a bigger splash this year – Brett Dennen.

This kid brought the goods with his 2006 album, “So Much More”, but surprisingly his music is only now beginning to reach a larger audience, thanks to an opening slot for John Mayer.

2008 has to be the year for Dennen. There’s no ways that music such as this should remain only a big deal online. Part Jack Johnson, part Dave Matthews, part Tracy Chapman, part early John Mayer (and, dare we say it, part Dylan if he continues to grow and mature?)… Dennen’s use of jazzy chord structures and a voice that epitomises warmth signals big things that are far too long overdue.

Perhaps the song that best exemplifies Brett Dennen’s song-writing chops is the song, “Ain’t No Reason”. At once a song decrying the way we live:

“prison walls still standing tall
some things never change at all
keep on building prisons,
gonna fill them all.
keep on building bombs
gonna drop them all
working your fingers bare to the bone
breaking your back, make you sell your soul
like a lung is filled with coal, suffocating slow”

… it gives us back hope with the chorus:

“but love will come set me free
love will come set me free
i do believe
love will come set me free
i know it will”

Here’s the song below. Listen. Love. Support.

State Radio come to Australia. In other news, I’m like a giggling schoolgirl.

Holy. Crap.
State Radio are coming out to Australia.

Some of you may know my… well… slight obsession with the band Dispatch. Seeing as I wasn’t able to make it to their “reunion” Zimbabwe benefit-gig, I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I would have to travel State-side to see either Pete Francis, Braddigan, or Chad play in their new projects; but, on a whim today, I was cruising around the State Radio site and noticed the news.
State Radio will be supporting Australia’s “The Beautiful Girls” on their “Under a Southern Sky” tour.

I’m glowing. I’m such a fanboy. But to see Chad live, after all these years… man, it’s going to be awesome.

Here’s a little taster…

Gibson’s “Robot Guitar”

Ok, so this is something we’ve been excited about for a while, but Gibson have released some new pics of their “Robotic Guitar”. No longer must tone-deaf guitar players drown in a sea of irony; the Robot Guitar can tune itself with a simple push of a button.

Release date has been slated as the 7th of December, which is guranateed to excite guitar players around the world; unfortunately, with an initial limited release of 4000 models, we suspect that the price tag is going to be slightly higher than what the average garage band can afford.

Still, isn’t it enough to drool over the pictures?

Here’s an instructional video on the workings of the guitar:

ProjectPlaylist.com

So another online playlist has hit my radar (only about a year late or so, so I’m getting better!)
Anyway, this time the site is projectplaylist, which creates an online playlist for you.
The advertising is a bit of a turn off, but the interface itself is very sleek and sexy…

The good news… it has a great range, as it scours the net and finds the suitable streaming files for you.
Side tip… it’s also great for finding online mp3 files that you can download. Not that we would ever advocate that or anything…
