Justin Vernon on Colbert

Justin Vernon talks about Bon Iver’s new album on Colbert. Basically, it’s an overload of awesome, topped off with a killer performance of Calgary.

Touche, Colbert… touche.

audiafauna – Roots

Ok, so here’s the thing: audiafauna haven’t even got around to releasing their debut LP yet. So this may be considered to be somewhat premature… but after spinning the below track, “Roots” a few times, I’m fairly confident in predicting that the radio stations will just eat this tune up. It’s pure radio fodder.

And I don’t mean that in a bad way either. It’s just a ridiculously accessible, incredibly catchy tune. Watch the video below, and download the track for free over at their bandcamp.

New Morrissey – Action Is My Middle Name (Live at Maida Vale 2011)

Um. Um um um. New Morrissey! That is all.
(You can listen to the whole set here, but if you’re in Australia you’ll need to spoof your IP)

Stream Bon Iver, Bon Iver

Dudes, stream the new self-titled “Bon Iver” LP below. Thanks to the New York Times, you can listen to the whole release, two weeks before its official release on June 21.

Thoughts? I’m thinking that 95% of “For Emma, Forever Ago” fans will hate it. Me? I’m thinking this is one of those albums that takes a few spins before it’s the memory of your favourite girlfriend’s scent. That comfortable, warm smell of strawberry vanilla.

In other words, give it a chance. And “Michicant” and “Wash.” are both freaking spectacular.

New Coldplay – Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall [STREAM]

The new single from Coldplay’s as-yet unnamed upcoming album – if so inclined, you can download it now from iTunes at http://cldp.ly/itunescp (except in the UK, where it will be released to download stores at 12.01am on Sunday June 5th).

I’m in two minds right now, but I strongly suspect this tune may be a sneaky grower. Can definitely hear the Eno influence in there again, too.

Joseph Arthur – Out On A Limb

Joseph Arthur and I have a complicated relationship. Once upon a time, I would have cited Jo as my favourite artist. But times change, as do people, and we grew apart… bar the odd exception or two.

But I’ve just got through listening to his new album, The Graduation Ceremony (out today) and I think I’m finally ready to strike up that relationship again. This is, quite simply, one of my favourite albums of 2011. The Graduation Ceremony sees Arthur reign in all those extraneous bits that I thought plagued his later stuff. This album is an exercise in restraint, and it’s oh-so beautiful.

Tyler, The Creator – Yonkers [VIDEO]

Can someone else let me know what you think of the whole Odd Future thing? Because, seriously… I’ve never been as conflicted about music as I have been by these dudes. I don’t know which way to turn, but I know I can’t turn away.

It’s some of the most prodigious talent I’ve seen in… well, I can’t think since when. But here’s the thing: Eminem’s been doing the shock lyrics things for over a decade now. The difference is this: he’s old enough to look into the abyss and step back. These dudes are still – mostly – in their teens. Will they fall in?

The Antlers – Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out

I have to admit, I just never really got into The Antlers hype. There was just something about them that didn’t connect with me, which is weird as the fans I speak to seem to get this completely deep and meaningful connection with their tunes. But, for whatever reason, it just didn’t click in my case.

Until I finally took the time to listen to this song from “Burst Apart” (which came out earlier this month) called, “Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out”. And man, this is just crazy good.

There’s a whole lot of stocatto Thom Yorke in here, but that is by no means a bad thing. Stilted and jangly, this is a tune that grows in your head throughout the night until it takes over.
