State Radio, “Right Me Up” live at the Bank of America Pavilion

It’s obviously a week for talking about my favourite bands. Today, I’m going to post about another favourite band of mine, State Radio. For more about how much this band means to me, you can check out my past posts on State Radio here. If not, suffice to say that this band has been instrumental in changing my world view. Without a doubt.

Recently, State Radio released a video on Youtube of them performing their killer track, “Right Me Up“, live at the Bank of America Pavilion. And it’s a special, special moment. See for yourself below.

Is it any wonder I love this band?

On a closing note:  Congratulations to Chad from the band for winning the Boston Music Awards’ Humanitarian of the Year Award. It’s a great recognition of the efforts the band has made so far, but as Chad says, “there’s so much more in store with the Calling All Crows Foundation“. Visit the site, and support. It’s the right thing to do.

Ryan Adams, Holiday Home Jams

So over the last four days, Ryan Adams has been busy on Youtube (see the Cards’ ‘Tube profile here), uploading “home jams” of some of his past songs. Given that he uploaded yet another one, “Cobwebs”, only 8 hours ago, I started thinking… well, how many more of these does he plan to do? So, I thought it might be interesting to put all the new videos in one post, and update it as more become available. So here, for your viewing pleasure, are the videos that Ryan has uploaded to his “Holiday Home Jams” playlist thus far. I’ll update the post as more become available, or you can just follow his playlist here.

Kelly Jones, “Maybe Tomorrow” from BBC’s “Later… with Jools Holland”

Included here for no other reason than:

  • It’s Kelly Jones… I mean, c’mon.
  • “Maybe Tomorrow” was always one of my favourite Stereophonics songs.

And, perhaps most importantly…

  • It’s been one of those days, and I’m hoping that… well, maybe tomorrow, you know?

Anyway, watch it below. Taken from the BBC’s “Later… with Jools Holland” show.

You can see more posts where I’ve talked about the “Later…” shows here.

Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, 3 Voor 12 Set

Following on from the Cardinals’ Coffee Shop Show, Ryan Adams & Co. have just released the entire (yes, entire… in other words, close on 30 minutes) 3 Voor 12 set up at cave.cardinology.

I really don’t see the need to enter too much in this post here. Honestly, I think I’ve talked about Ryan Adams and The Cardinals enough in the past for you to get all the information you need. So… I’ll just cut this short, and embed the video below for you to watch.

Trust me when I say it’s beautiful.

Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, in the BBC Studios

So this past Saturday, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals appeared on BBC Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary show… and man, what a treat we were in for.

It was a short and sweet slot, with only 2 interview segments, and two songs, but those two songs were pure magic. The first was the always-stunning “Fix It” (by the way, if you haven’t seen their performance of this song on Letterman, then head here. Seriously, you need to watch it)… and then straight out of left-field comes a cover of Foo Fighters “Times Like These”. I’m loving the way they perform the song, and it’s actually reminiscent of a way I used to play it at various open mic nights, which probably lends itself to a greater connection with me.

Anyway, I’ve included the entire show including interview segments below, but at the very least, listen to “Fix It” and “Times Like These”. Sheer beauty.

Ryan Adams, Cardinology Coffee Shop Show…

Wow, look at all those alliterations in that title.
Anyway, straight to the business at hand. Ryan Adams and the Cardinals recently celebrated the release of their “Cardinology” album with a eight-song acoustic performance at Café Select in New York’s Soho. For those who were there, in such an intimate setting, it must have been an amazing experience. Needless to say, I was jealous.

So, thank god that Ryan & The Cardinals have today premiered the pro-shot footage of the performane at coffee.cardinology.com… and I’ve embedded the show below.

All in all, it’s everything that I would imagine an intimate night with the Cards in like… fun, touching, and magical. I won’t bore you too much with words… just watch the show below.

Set-list of the performance:

‘Born Into A Light’
‘Evergreen’
‘Fix It’
‘Magick’ (side note… this performance is the first time I’ve actually enjoyed this song)
‘Natural Ghost’

Ben Folds Five Reunion, Front to Back… on Myspace now!

Another short post today, but Myspace has finally put up their “Front to Back… Ben Folds Five Reunion” videos that “the other Matt” and I were so excited about.

I can’t seem to access the Myspace videos myself (not sure if it’s only available to US viewers?), but thankfully someone is dutifully uploading them on youtube as we speak… and after watching a few minutes, I’m in love again.

Playing their 1999 album, “The Unauthorized Biography Of Rienhold Messner”, in front of a live audience… well, it’s everything a Ben Folds Five fan could have asked for.

Here’s a taster or two below… but you can check out the videos on Myspace here, and (if you’re having trouble accessing those, like me) the youtube user’s profile here.
