I have to be honest, I don’t have much of a story for this one. I just randomly stumbled across this video from Allen Stone, but info on the guy is… well, kind of sparse.
But what I can tell you is… dude is incredibly, incredibly smooth. And I’m loving this tune. So I’m looking forward to learning more.
Pure velvet. “Unaware” is from Allen’s upcoming self-titled album, due out soon. Whatever “soon” means.
Can someone else let me know what you think of the whole Odd Future thing? Because, seriously… I’ve never been as conflicted about music as I have been by these dudes. I don’t know which way to turn, but I know I can’t turn away.
It’s some of the most prodigious talent I’ve seen in… well, I can’t think since when. But here’s the thing: Eminem’s been doing the shock lyrics things for over a decade now. The difference is this: he’s old enough to look into the abyss and step back. These dudes are still – mostly – in their teens. Will they fall in?
I have to admit, a few years ago I saw Children Collide open for the Hoodoo Gurus down at the Coolangatta Hotel… and while I could totally respect what they did on the stage, it just wasn’t my type of thing. But this track (and absolutely kickass video), Loveless, has me rethinking that.
Loveless is taken from Children Collide’s 2010 LP, “Theory of Everything”.
James Vincent McMorrow has been one of my more consistent spins this year, since I first heard his stunning tune, “This Old Dark Machine“. Despite that, I’ve only just realised that I’ve never posted about the guy on here, which is crazy.
So here’s a handy excuse to get that first post up: James has just premiered the official video for the disconcerting “Sparrow and the Wolf”; another cracker song off his debut album, Early in the Morning. Watch below.
For a while now, Ryan’s been teasing us fans with images from the studio of his forthcoming album, produced by Glyn Johns (see the above image for just a taste, and view the rest in his Facebook album here).
Although the images were tantalising enough, I’ve been craving a bit more, and it looks like it’s just arrived. Just two nights ago, Ryan performed a surprise solo acoustic set at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, opening for his friend and “Oh My Sweet Carolina” duet partner Emmylou Harris… and we might just have got our first glimpse of some of the new material possibly set for the forthcoming LP. Not only did he revisit the aforementioned Heartbreaker single — alongside Harris of course — but he also unveiled at least four new songs that made their way online in the small hours of the night. How much do we love Youtube right now?
Below, you can watch Adams perform “Dirty Rain”, as well as three more heartbreaking new songs alongside the Emmylou duet.
Hot on the heels of me announcing Maggie Eckford as my new musical crush, please welcome Melbourne-based Owl Eyes (aka Brooke Addamo) to that list. The below track, Faces, is the title-track from Brooke’s recently released 5-track EP, and damned if it isn’t hypnotising to the extreme.
